Glossary

A

Adshot

An Adshot is a customised message that is automatically selected and sent to your terminal for printing based on the details of the customer you have just served.

Advert Status

This refers to whether or not the advert is currently printing:

Draft The message has not yet been submitted and is not live.
Uploaded The message has been submitted to Streamline but has not yet gone "Live" on your terminal.
Live The message is live on your terminal and will print if an appropriate transaction is processed
Suspended The message has been taken down from "Live" and will not print
Expired The message has passed the campaign end date or issue volume and the campaign has completed.

Authorisation 

Your transaction can be approved or declined by a card issuer or an acquirer on behalf of a card issuer. When a transaction is processed by your terminal a request for authorisation is made to Streamline who in turn ask the card issuer. If the transaction is approved an authoritarian code is returned to your terminal and the transaction proceeds, otherwise the transaction is cancelled. The authorisation is typically processed electronically between the merchant and the acquirer but on occasions you can phone up to have it approved over the phone and the authoristaion code is given to you.

B

Barcode

A unique number that generates a series of lines which can be read / scanned by some till systems. The Adshot product allows you to set these up (using the international standard of EAN13). In this way a merchants till can be set-up to automatically process a voucher.

C

Card Issuer

An Institution which issues a payment card to the cardholder

Cardholder 

An individual to whom a card has been issued or an individual authorised to use such a card.

E

EAN 13

The 13 digit unique number that is assigned when a barcode is set up (see barcode)

M

Merchant 

A business, which accepts, cards and provides goods and/or services and possibly other facilities to cardholders.

Message

An advert printed on the bottom of a customer's receipt.

Message Profile

A message profile is a message you set up on the system

This message can be set up to be sent to an unlimited number of customers.

This message can be set up to go to all, or only a selected number or type of customer depending on how you set it up. A simple on-line process leads you though how to do this.

MID 

The Merchant Identification Number, this is your customer number with your bank acquirer. This 8-digit number ending in 2 can be found on the top-left corner of your receipts, prefixed "M".

O

Outlet 

This typically refers to your shop and would be used to refer to the group of all your terminals in one location,

P

Payment Card

A term for any plastic card (credit, debit, charge etc) which may be used on its own to pay for goods and services, or to withdraw cash.

POS Point of Sale (Service)

The physical location at which a merchant terminal is sited and where card transactions are conducted.

Response Time 

The time taken for a terminal to obtain a reply from a remote computer system to receive an authorisation.

S

Service Plus

Service Plus is a level of subscription that allows retailers to set up Message Profiles over the telephone with the help of skilled customer service representative (call 0845 862 0226). If you have not subscribed to this service you can access your Message Profile on-line

T

Terminal 

The equipment that the bank has given you to enable you to process payment cards with on-line authorisation from the card issuer. Each terminal is unique and must be registered with the Streamline Adshot service to print messages.

TID Terminal Identification Number

This is a unique identification number given to each individual terminal.

This number can be found printed on the top right corner of your receipts. It is an eight digit number prefixed "T".

Alternatively it can be found on your terminal:

            a. Dione Xplorer – On the underside of the handset, underneath the barcode.

            b. Dione Xchequer – On the underside of the PinPad, underneath the barcode.

Transaction

The act of making a purchase, paying for it by card and processing it through your terminal.

During this process, the Adshot message is automatically selected based on the details of this transaction for printing on the customers receipt.

V

Voucher

An advert printed on the bottom of a customer's receipt containing a "saving" or barcode offer. The offer is dependant upon the voucher being presented when the purchase is made. Each voucher automatically has a unique number printed on the bottom for security and identification purposes.
